Developed by Alexander Davidson in 1999, Metapad is known as an open source text editor designed for Microsoft Windows 9x/NT/XP/Vista/7/8/10. The purpose of this software is to offer a near drop-in replacement of Notepad in Windows. As a freeware, it was distributed for ten years since it was released on March 20, 2009.
